DISCUSSION EVENING: Wednesday 2 March 6 – 8pm
As part of our programme to encourage and help develop the work of emerging artists, we invited art students to submit exhibition proposals to showcase their work in The Holy Biscuit for our Student Open Call.
This year, our successful artists were Rowan Mills and Phoebe McElhatton, who collaboratively make video and performance work. Their work aimed to question the sometimes overly serious nature of Art, with a light-hearted exhibition. The gallery was transformed into a playful space using video, performance and music. Upon first glance, the two films on show appeared to have been digitally enhanced, whilst in reality, surreal optical illusions were created merely using human bodies. The works aimed to emulate the close relationship between the artists, capturing how two bodies can merge to become one. The artists played on the comedic potential of working as a pair.
A live performance took place at 6:45pm on the opening night, which pushed the element of bodily optical illusion in the physical space.
